REVIEW: WFTV Legal Event with Herbert Smith Freehills – Tips for Setting Up A Business
Setting up your own business can be a daunting prospect, particularly for those working in the creative industries in the current post-Brexit climate. The task for women is tougher still, with female CEOs comprising only 7% of the business owners in the FTSE 100 list, and just 9% of funding into UK startups going to female-led businesses. However, thanks to a legal event put on by multinational law firm Herbert Smith Freehills, WFTV members were equipped with the knowledge needed to set up a company with confidence.
Following a reception of canapés and refreshments in their stunning offices at Exchange House, Broadgate, the panel of all-female speakers at Herbert Smith Freehills shared their legal expertise with a captive audience, providing an in-depth overview of what it takes to set up a business.
The speakers’ discussion covered the types of legal structures available to would-be business owners, the considerations that need to be taken prior to incorporating a company, along with the on-going governance requirements of running a business. Other topics included the legal implications of hiring employees, tax, and the all-important nitty gritty of intellectual property. WFTV members went home armed with a complimentary booklet summary from Herbert Smith Freehills and, needless to say, copious notes!
If you did happen to miss this event, don’t panic! Hayley Brady, one of the event’s speakers and Senior Media and Entertainment Lawyer at HSF, will be hosting a series of 1-2-1 surgeries on Tuesday 10th April exclusively for WFTV members. You can find out more information and book your slot here.
