Producers: Share Your Views About Representation

Producer and 2016 WFTV mentee Loran Dunn has teamed up with fellow-producers Helen Simmons and Sophie Reynolds to run a series of round-table events with other UK producers, as a place to share experiences and ideas.

They are currently running a survey for producers to try to gather information about representation and what issues might be holding people back.

Loran shares the below message with WFTV members and would like to encourage any producer members to complete the survey here.

Film Producers are the gatekeepers of the British independent film industry. But are they also the least diverse group?

Are we losing out on a pool of producing talent – and subsequently a range of new voices – because the current producing infrastructure is prohibitive and difficult to thrive in?

For the first time, we want to look honestly at how challenging it is to break into the industry as a Producer, and how expensive it is to sustain yourself and your business once established.

We suspect there are certain systems in place that perpetuate the need for independent wealth in order to succeed, and that this is excluding many people. We also believe that there may be some very simple solutions to help alleviate this.

Along with the results of this survey, a roundtable of independent Producers will put together a list of guidelines for good practice in the industry at large, which we hope will encourage diversity, sustainability, and growth in the British Film Industry as a whole.

Your input into this survey is crucial to providing a greater understanding of the current producing climate, and those represented within it.

All responses are anonymous so please be as open and honest as you can.

Thank you so much for your time and input!
