This year’s winner could be a female… that’s right female!

WFTV are thrilled that three female film directors have today made history by being nominated as best director at this years Golden Globe awards - the first time more than one female director has been shortlisted in the same year. This year Emerald Fennell, Regina King and Chloe Zhao are nominated for Promising Young Woman, One Night in Miami and Nomadland respectively. In the past 77 years only five female directors have been nominated, the last being Ava DuVernay for Selma in 2014. Only one woman has ever won in the best director category - Barbra Streisand in 1983 for the film Yentl. The best of luck to the nominees - we have everything crossed for a win this year. Let’s close that 37 year gap! Massive congratulations from WFTV Katie Bailiff | CEO
