Former WFTV Mentee appointed Amazon’s Director of Original TV, Europe

2012 WFTV mentee Georgia Brown has been hired by Amazon as the company’s Director of Original TV for Europe. It’s well-known that Amazon has been investing huge resources into commissioning original film and TV content in recent years, with the high profile launch of The Grand Tour in December 2016 a prime example.

Georgia heads to Amazon from The X-Factor distributor FremantleMedia International, where she was Executive Vice President of Content and Co-Productions.

When Georgia took part in the WFTV Mentoring Scheme – which is designed for women with at least five years’ experience in the industry – she was working as a Commercial Executive at BBC Worldwide. Her Mentor on the scheme was Jane Lush, the former BBC executive who was appointed Chair of BAFTA in 2016.

Nicola Lees, who has run the WFTV Mentoring Scheme since it began in 2011, commented: “As we enter our seventh WFTV Mentoring Scheme with a brand new cohort, it is thrilling see how our ex-mentees go on to progress – and excel – in their careers. Georgia is a fantastic role model for us all.”

Jane Lush, BAFTA Chair and co-founder of independent production company, Kalooki Pictures said: “I am absolutely thrilled, but not at all surprised, that Georgia has achieved so much in such a short time.  It was a pleasure to be her mentor.  Massive congratulations to her.”

And huge congratulations to Georgia from everyone at WFTV.
