WFTV members are invited to this special BFI London Film Festival screening of Witches, a documentary written and directed by Elizabeth Sankey.
An unflinching yet necessary exploration of post-partum depression and the stigma around women’s mental health, innovatively illustrated by the portrayal of witches in cinema. In this powerful personal essay, director Elizabeth Sankey and other women share their battles with post-natal depression or psychosis. The testimonies are deftly interwoven with a mosaic of clips showing how witches have been portrayed throughout the history of film, and uncanny parallels soon emerge. This unique piece of cinema destigmatises mental health around motherhood, and is a rallying call to find your coven!
