Draft Guidelines Published for Sex Scenes On Set
For the last four years, WFTV Member and Movement and Intimacy Director, Ita O’Brien (pictured) has been developing best practice when working with intimacy, scenes with sexual content, and nudity in film, TV, and theatre.
In the absence of any industry-wide guidelines or accepted process, she has now developed draft guidelines for intimacy, simulated sex scenes and nudity, which can be downloaded here.
Writing on her website, Ita says ‘These guidelines are not a constraint, but an improvement on current practice. They free the actor to embody the character whilst delivering repeatable and safe scenes that facilitate the Director’s vision.’
WFTV supports Ita’s work and the guidelines, which she is now trying to have adopted across the industry. To find out more about the processes her guidelines advocate for, you can watch a short, informative video on her website here. If you would like to add your voice to support these guidelines – either as an organisation or an individual – Ita would love to hear from you. Please contact her via her agent, Chris Carey by e-mailing firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling 0207 993 4992.
Ita has also developed workshops and training for actors and directors, directors and producers, and movement directors and intimacy directors, which you can find out more about on her website too.
