WFTV Wales are hosting a TV Business Basics for Creatives seminar at Cameo Club on 13 November 2019.

Our panellists will be providing an overview of the business of television and examining the fundamental things you need to be looking for in your contracts.

Gwenda Carnie will be giving an introduction to the business of television, providing insight for those who work in the TV industry and want to know a bit more about the business aspects of TV. Angharad Evans will talk through basic law, Chain of title and the importance of key contractual terms and Sara Griffiths will be providing top tips on Option and Rights Agreements.

After the seminar, there will be an opportunity to ask your burning legal and contractual questions in a Q&A.

Gwenda Carnie, Group Commercial Director, Flame Group

Gwenda began her career at London media law firm, Reed Smith. After working at MTV, Gwenda moved home to Cardiff to work at Blake Morgan as a media and commercial lawyer. Gwenda then worked at the BBC as Senior Legal and Business Affairs Manager and went on to be a consultant for S4C, Wiggin, Lawyers on Demand and the Wales Co-operative Centre.

Gwenda is now Legal Counsel for the Flame Media Group, working internationally with producers in the UK and around the world.


Angharad Evans, Consultant, Acuity Law

Angharad began her career in media law working with Welsh production companies at Blake Morgan and then moved to London to practice as a film finance lawyer. Angharad returned to Wales to work in-house at S4C and was the Head of Legal and Business Affairs.

Angharad has recently set up as a Freelance Legal and Business Affairs Consultant under the banner of Acuity Law. Angharad provides practical advice to film and television producers and broadcasters dealing with film and television production, financing, co-production, animation, distribution, clearances, Ofcom compliance, joint ventures and new company set up.


Sara Griffiths, Consultant, Loosemoores Solicitors

Sara specialised in intellectual property law at Eversheds before joining S4C.

As Head of Legal and Business Affairs at S4C, Sara worked on coproductions, financing agreements, distribution, underlying rights, talent union negotiations and music  blanket licensing arrangements with PRS and PPL for all types of content.  She also handled the digital capacity, transmission and uplink arrangements on terrestrial, satellite and cable platforms.

Sara joined Loosemores three years ago and advises media and entertainment clients. In the newly published 2020 edition of the Legal 500 Sara has retained her ranking as a “Leading Individual” for Media and Entertainment in Wales.  The firm has also retained its ‘Top Tier’ ranking for Media and Entertainment.
