WFTV 1-2-1 Clinic: Legal Advice with Luke Gornell, Clintons
Thursday 21 May | 10:00-12:00
Online via Zoom.us | Viewing details will be sent prior to the event
Experienced film and television lawyers Emilie Edwards, Supna Chavda and Luke Gornell from Clintons specialist Film & TV team will be available for 1-2-1 consultations across the month of May, these will be carried out via phone or Zoom over three dates.
Luke Gornell is a Film and TV lawyer at Clintons. His practice is extremely diverse and his clients encompass award winning production companies, rights management companies, financiers, content creators, brands and leading talent. In addition to a broad range of development and production work (for both scripted and non-scripted content), Luke regularly advises clients on platform/major broadcaster deals and in relation to high value financing transactions.
Luke will be running this session.
As previous Legal Clinics have focused on the COVID-19 fallout Emilie, Supna and Luke are offering focussed advice on development, financing and exploitation:
Development: Do you have a project with a budget of more than £250k that you’ve been able to advance in lockdown and now need reliable legal advice on? How do you obtain and protect the rights? How do you secure the key talent? What are the key terms in collaboration and co-production agreements? If you don’t get this right at an early stage, it can be complex to unpick later on.
Financing: Every project needs investors and financiers. What are the key differences between a loan and investment agreement? What are the key forms of security when investing or accepting investment from third parties?
Exploitation: Finished content is now at a premium. Do you need to consider the evolving exploitation landscape? What are the key differences when negotiating with streamers? How will your marketing and exploitation strategies change with festivals and markets disappearing this summer?
Emilie, Supna and Luke are available to help you get these key points right. The aim of the Legal 1-2-1 surgeries are to provide useful pointers, but cannot be a substitute for formal legal advice following proper review and consideration of the facts and any relevant documents and information.
